The lights flashed, pulsing to the beat of the music that vibrated up into his chest, the liquor flowing cup after cup until bottle to bottle. His body twisted and turned, hips rolling, hands up in the air. Black hair fell into his face, charcoal grey eyes closed. Sex on the dance floor. He couldn't get enough of the music and he wanted it to last all night. Getting out of his parents house and out into a crowd where he could be himself had been top priority since the week started and he wasn't going to squander this opportunity.
It felt better than good to sing along and just fucking let it all go. Even if it was for only one night. He didn't care that the whole place smelled like sex and he was being eyed from every corner of the dance floor. Even the denim cock brushing his ass, which normally would've been offensive, didn't register a complaint. In fact he all but welcomed it. If only as a big middle finger to his father and even more so his mother.
Then the song he'd been waiting for came on. I Hate You by Simon Curtis. If he didn't give into the music before he sure as hell did now. He laughed, singing along at the top of his lungs. He hadn't felt this free since he'd broken up with his ex boyfriend. Too bad he hadn't expected the fuck boy to out him to his parents and then spreading rumors about his virginity all over. Dani had bruised his knuckles on the fucker's face when he'd kicked his sorry narrow ass.
Smiling he turned a small circle, the stranger's hands finding his hips and finding a matching rhythm. In the back of his head he thought about how disgusting this was but at the moment he couldn't care less if he'd tried. Feeling more than a little adventurous he accepted the few little pills the stranger had offered from a little plastic bag. It wasn't the first time he'd done drugs so he wasn't intimidated. Swallowing them down with a kiss Dani flashed one of his impish smiles.
He couldn't remember exactly what happened that they ended up fucking in the bathroom. Then again in his car. He remembered even less about the rest of the night except that, even with the risks, he had no regrets. Even in doing a walk of shame across the parking lot of the club the next morning there wasn’t a stir in his subconscious. He had a massive headache and dreaded going home though. So much so that he just crawled into the back seat and slept off the lingering effects of the drugs.
When he woke up the sun was setting, there were twelve missed messages on his phone and nearly thirty texts in his inbox. Sighing heavily he sat up, leaning against the door and bringing his knees up to his chest. There was no point in reading the messages; they were all from his 'family' so he mass deleted all of them without a second thought. Dani got caught staring at his phone for along time. He thought about returning to his parents house and wanted to punch something or scream. He didn't belong there with them. Lowering his head onto his knees he wrapped his arms around his legs and did nothing to fight the tears that came so suddenly.
He wanted to just up and leave but where the hell would he go? What about his job? What about high school? Right then he made a pact with himself that he would get out of, not just his parent's house, out of the city and maybe even the state. He wished so badly to be somewhere else or to be someone else it hurt. He couldn't help that he was born this way and that being open and flamboyant made him happy. Not anymore than he could decide what eye or hair color he was born with.
Sighing he rubbed his face, using the back of his hand and the heel of his palm to wipe away the tracks left by the tears and sniffled softly. Feeling a sudden weight settle on him he tossed his phone into the passenger seat and crawled up and into the driver’s seat. Again the thought that he could just leave, right now, leave all this behind was so tempting he almost did it.
The drive home was too short even with him driving much more slowly than he normally did; going under the speed limit instead of over it. When he pulled up into the driveway and cut the engine the lights inside were all out even though it was still early. Dani, needing to procrastinate, sat there for a while just staring up at the big white house as a knot of dread started to form in his stomach. Eventually he steeled himself enough to get out and try to sneak inside.
Of course as soon as he opened the door there was his father. "Where have you been?" The man did nothing to mask the distaste in his voice. "I was out dad." The man scoffed. "Whore." Dani paused in the act of taking off his shoes and bit his tongue. If he argued back it just made everything worse in the end. "Give me your keys." His father held out his hand, the same dark eyes he saw in the mirror boring holes into him. "I need the car to get to school and work." Dani made to walk past the man, wanting to get a shower and hide away in his bedroom. He was grabbed by the arm and slammed against the wall before he made it very far. Wincing he didn't fight as the keys were wrenched from his hand and he was pushed toward the stairs.
He caught himself on the banister and didn't look back as his father started in on him. Again. "You live in my house you live by my rules. You don't get the car on weekends anymore. You get it for work and school. That’s it. And wash that makeup off your face." Dani stumbled as he was pushed again and scrambled up the stairs to get away. He managed to hold it together until the door to his room was shut and locked. He'd been lucky the man wasn't drunk this time.
Biting his lip to keep the tears back he made a beeline for the bathroom. A shower would help. He'd get all the day old stank off himself, make sure he got the eyeliner off, then go to bed so he’d make it to school in the morning. Or so he'd thought.
He was awakened to someone pounding on his door with a heavy fist, a slurred voice on the other side of the wooden panels. His heart skipped a beat. The door knob jiggled and he was out of bed and shoving everything he could think to grab in his backpack and scrambling for a pair of jeans and t-shirt, which he was still in the process of pulling on when the door burst open. Damn it, his father had found the key to his room. Dani couldn't get his voice to work to even begin to plead with the older man before the heavy fist that had been about the break through the door caught him in the face.
This was all so typical. It had happened so many times he thought he was beyond caring but this time was different. He could see it in the way his father didn't even blink as he drew back his fist again and again. Dani fought back, shoving his father back and grabbing his bag. The way to the stairs was blocked so he did what desperation drove him to.
He dove out the window, breaking through the glass and hitting first the roof of the porch before rolling off onto the flagstone pathway through the garden. The fall knocked the air from his lungs and he struggled to draw breath as well as scramble up from the ground and start running. He didn't look back. He ran as far and as fast as his legs would take him.
