- Do not Gode Mode: Where a character does something they are not capable of/do not have permission to do to another character, e.g. moving another character (without actual physical intervention by the godmodding character) by stating they are somewhere they are not without the other player's permission. Also: "God Modding" is in essence when someone’s character has the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. And example is when they simply cannot be harmed by any and all means other RP-ers try. It can be killing or injuring a character without the player's express permission. It can be when they simply can’t be hit and dodge all attacks or anything for this matter aimed at them. It can also be using other characters that other people RP with. In other words, if you do not RP as Legolas, then you cannot have Legolas say anything, or do anything, without the player's express permission. The absolute worst is when they make out another character to be what they’re not, just to make their own character seem superior. They make others seem weak, screaming for help, when they’ve made it quite clear about their advantages and strengths. This is called power-play. It’s a strain of God-Modding, but instead of just being irritating, it’s offensive to boot. Auto Hitting is also part of God-Modding. This describes a fighting action whereby a character is attacking another character and ASSUMES to have hit them without the other characters response being considered.
- Overpowering Characters: This is giving something or someone an unreasonable, unfair, unrealistic, or unbalanced amount of power [Pandora’s box however accepts very powerful characters as long as weakness or drawbacks are reasonable enough. Message the administration with questions/help it not overpowering characters.]
- Metagaming: Is also not accept in Pandora’s Box. This is bringing OOC knowledge into an IC situation, e.g. knowing that a character really likes ice cream, when it has never been mentioned, and your character has no basis for knowing this fact.
- Retcon: This is only allowed win all roleplayers involved give consent. Retcon is short for 'retroactive continuity'. This refers to a player (or players) OOCly backtracking and erasing plots from the IC continuity as if they had never happened.
- Static Characters: A Character that does not undergo important change in the course of the story, remaining essentially the same at the end as he or she was at the beginning. These also lack depth. without the flaws, quirks & limits that make them interesting and real. They’re also cliched, having qualities or characteristics that are overused by people trying to have a powerful/perfect/cool character.
- Wangst: PLEASE. Don’t be an attention whore with your character’s gruesome, dramatic, worse-than-anyone’s past. It gets old fast. The point of having a character with these issues is that they work through them. When angst goes bad: either overboard in its severity (as though things were just added for the 'drama factor') and/or is the continual focus of the character (every thread is designed to showcase the horror of this character's past). There is no attempt to 'deal with' their problems, or any sign of 'improvement' or character development beyond things simply getting worse. While some people do wangst over things, it is usually limited to a specific period of time, before they move onto the next stage (whatever that may be).
- Don’t include yourself in someone else’s roleplay without being invited. Roleplayer’s spend a lot of time and put a lot of effort into created character arcs. If you step in uninvited and trash their carefully thought out storylines you will be ignored and your posts will be taken down. The exception to this is if [Open] is in the title. That means that whomever started the roleplay has invited any and everyone into the scenario and you may jump in whenever you please.
