The shadows of the Recreation Room pulled and twisted into a large writhing mass in a remote corner, next to the piano. The pulsing miasma swiftly churned, falling in on itself as a feminine figure began to materialize. Ema lithely stepped from the squirming knot; her black converse making a soft ‘tip’ on the floor. She brushed her loosely curled raven locks from her face, revealing soft blue eyes that caught the light and wavered like an intense blue fire. With a delicate flick of her fingers she cast off the shadows, watching with a smile as the snaking penumbra slithered back to the darker parts of the room. With a gentle sigh she smoothed out her t-shirt and wandered over to the refrigerator and retrieved a can of Coca Cola from one of the bottom rungs; not caring that her much too sho
rt shorts where attracting unwanted attention.
She knew Ethan had been crushing on her, but not to what extent. She had turned him down time and time again because she was still clinging to the hope that her presumed deceased fiancée Jake would return some how. Ethan seemed to have taken to stalking her lately. She would find love letters, poems, gifts, even money from him slid under the door of her dorm room, or stuffed though the window of her car. It was all getting to be too much and she was starting to get freaked out.
According to Audrey the would be suitor had more than just holding hands in mind. So of course when she closed the refrigerator door there he was. She allowed him a small smile as she was trying to be polite to him, but this wouldn't end well. It never did. Who would've thought that a school like this would have regular teen age drama?
The book dropped from his grasp suddenly echoing a loud thud throughout the library. The librarian shot him a glare as he fumbled with it trying to put it back. He felt so out of place and confused. He had been failing a class and even though he knew Ema had offered to help and tutor him he just couldn't bring himself to ask her. In fact he had been hiding his failure from her quite well. So rather than risk looking stupid in front of someone who's respect he covets above near anything else he had decided to actually try on his own. Only he was getting nowhere fast. Not to mention embarrassed himself with his clumsyness. Why had he dropped it? That wasn't like him. He just had been daydreaming and had abruptly been snapped out of it as if he was having a night terror or in this case day terror. He suddenly felt a wave of fear and dread wash over him. Suddenly he spun around and pointed accusingly at the person whose eyes he felt on him from behind but just woundup making an even bigger fool of himself for no one was behind him. For once not completely enjoying and basking in the attention he was getting he looked down apologetically before leaving the library in a rush not bothering to check out the books or to even take them. His thoughts were racing faster and faster by the minute. He didn't know what was going on but he knew it wasn't good. Not quite knowing where he was going he decided on a whim to check the rec room in hopes of finding someone or something to get his mind off of the odd things he was feeling.
She was frantically searching for a way to excuse herself from another awkward conversation with Ethan when Audrey appeared in the Rec. Hall. Using his distraught appearance to leave her clingy fanboy she made her way over to her friend. From the look on his face she could tell he wasn't his usual peppy and arrogant self that she so adored. Still she smiled and wrapped her arms around him in a warm hug. "Hey, Audrey~ What's up, you don't look so good..." She chanced a glance over her shoulder at Ethan. "Wanna go get a drink in the city?"
He froze as the other male turned around and made eye contact with him. His own narrowed suspiciously at Ethan. Even though he answered Ems he kept meeting the other mans gaze. "What's wrong?....you tell me....it is you I felt....isn't it?"
She frown and followed Audrey's eyes to see Ethan glaring at the two of them. She shook her head and looked back to Audrey. "Maybe it was. Let's just go. I could use a break from all these classes anyway." She had started walking toward to door to the lobby/ main office. "We can talk more there."
He sighed unenthusiastically turning his back on the man glaring daggers at him after Ema left the room first so he could at least stand between the two wishing he could block himself from the others thoughts."fine lets get out of here"
Ema led the way down the dorm room hall toward the student parking lot, arms crossed over her chest, a frown on her face. "Sorry about him... again. You wouldn't believe how many times I've tried to get rid of him." She looked over her shoulder at Audrey, offering him a smile.
Ema....don't apologize....you didn't and never could do something to deserve being followed everywhere by a creep like that"
"Thanks, Audrey." She smiled a little brighter as the door to the parking lot came into view. "Where does Neon City have the best drinks...?" She tapped her lip in thought. Her eyes widened as she suddenly got a brilliant idea. "Audrey... Wanna see my house?"
"Don't mention it its just the truth"he opened the door for her and couldn't help but smile as well seeing her face brighten up."your house?..sure...come to think of it....I think this is the first time you've even mentioned to me that you had a house"
She took his hand as they walked though the door, baby blue eyes brightening as well now. "You didn't know? Hmm... It's...uh... It's pretty big... My parents were rich so..." She laughed looking around the parking lot for her car. "I haven't been there in a couple days."
He let her take his hand not giving it much thought. They had become closer lately but to him they were still in the same crazy friendship theyd always been. Sure he had gotten better at using his ability but lately he had felt bad using it on her and hand tried his best to give her privacy. So now he was looking forward to seeing a part of her life he hadnt before and he followed her eagerly to her car. "oh really? i knew you were spoiled~"
She rolled her eyes at him, letting go of his hand only once she found her beloved Lamborghini Gallorde Spyder. Her prized possession. She ran a hand across the smooth, shining, black metal of the sleek race car. Her eyes glinted, heart swelled, breath caught in her throat. She damn well loved that car. "Be careful when you're getting in. It's leather~" She kissed the hood then slid into the driver's seat.
He laughed before brushing off his pants to be extra careful before getting into her beloved car. "so...why is your family so rich?"
"We bought half the city." She shrugged. "I don't like to brag or anything, but my house /is/ pretty nice."
"I see.....so why are you taking me there?"he frowned turning to face her."dont tell me i have to meet your stinking rich family~"
"I... My parents are dead. I don't know where my brother is..." Pulls out of the parking lot and starts down the highway. "I only have the maids and Bruce at my house now."
He mentally hit himself. Why did he never think before he spoke? "i...i didnt know....im so sorry....."
Waves off his apology. "They died a long time ago. Don't be sorry." She smiled over at him then started to slow down as they pulled up to a large gate where Ema rolled down the window. "Mecha? It's me, can you get the gates please?" A computerized voice responded cheerfully and opened the gates, revealing a large mansion with a fountain and beautifully paid for landscaping and all the works. "Welcome to Ashton Hall~"
Audrey was blown away.He had never been to any mansions before save the x one.But of course he wasnt about to let his amazement show. "...interesting.....so why is it that im here?"
"We've been over this. I wanna get some booze and be out of Ethan's range for a while." Looks over at him. "That okay with you?"
"Sure babe....but you know I'm not a mind reader...yet....so keeping me up to date with what's going on would be nice"
What do you mean?" Stops the car in the drive way, looking over at him in confusion. "It's not your problem."
‎"Isn't it?.....you are my problem...I mean"curses under his breath."if its your problem then its mine as well.....besides I sorta saved you back there~doesnt a hero get a thank you?"
Smiles at him then leans over and kisses both his cheeks then his lips. "Thank you. You're my best friend Drey-Drey~" Giggles then slides out of the car, the barking off two very large dogs coming from inside.
