Days in Flight (.dF): The number of days a ship has been in flight from the moment of initial purchase.
i.e. - New would be 0.dF while a used model will have on average about 3650.dF which is 10 years.
Flying Time (.fT): Estimated time taken via airship to get from point A to Point B.
i.e - It's about 4.5.fT to get to London. (That's four and 1/2 hours.)
Hashdate (#date, #{the date}): Number of days in the year. This is used by aviators and sailors to keep logs and mind the date. It is a slang that has come into common practice so much so that it is now the preferred and most recognised form of dating. It avoids days of the week, months, and years thought requires a bit of math to get the hang of. Once learned though it is second nature.
i.e - If the hashdate is 365 you would know that it is January 31st; New Years.
Wristset: A watch-like device that calculates the hashdate, .dF, .fT, temperature, and in newer models the distance and bearing.
Distance and Bearing: Latitude and Longitude. Form of mapping or locating that aviators and sailors use to either record, navigate, locate, or map their position.
Knot(s) (kt, kn): Unit of speed equal to one nautical mile (per hour). 1.852 kilometres per hour. 1.151 miles per hour (approximately). 0.514 metres per second (approximately).
Kilometre per Hour (kph): Equal to one knot exactly. {See knot}
Nautical Mile (M,NM, or nmi): 1,852 metres exactly (about 6,076 feet).
Cubit: A cubit arm in heraldry may be dexter or sinister. It may be vested (with a sleeve) and may be shown in various positions, most commonly erect, but also fesswise (horizontal), bendwise (diagonal) and is often shown grasping objects. In biblical exegesis, the Near Eastern or Biblical cubit is usually estimated as approximately 46 cm (18 in). In ancient Rome, according to Vitruvius, a cubit was equal to 1 1/2 Roman feet or 6 palm width -which is 443.8 mm (17.47 in). The ancient Greek cubit, called a pēchys (πῆχυς), measured approximately 462.4 mm (18.20 in). The short forearm cubit from the wrist to the elbow, called the pygmē (πυγμή), measured approximately 345.4 mm (13.60 in). The Sumerian cubit as about 518.6 mm (20.42 in).
Long Cubit = Construction - "a cubit plus a handbreadth" - 21in.
Short Cubit = Common Cubit - 17in.
Star Harvesting: The collection of dying stars to be converted into star matter.
Star Matter: Form of energy collected from stars and converted into a crystallized material. This new material is used to power airships and make starlites.
Lightning Collection: Catching lightening from thunderheads in rubberglass containers to be used as a form of sustainable energy to power any electronic device.
Blackout: The most common cause of airship failure. This failure is caused by either an overload of or drainage of power to a ship. This causes the ship to malfunction and shut down completely. Of course this means the whole thing falls out of the sky.
Rubberglass: A special non-conductive and highly flexable glass infused with rubber to safely store hazardous materials such as lightening or star matter. It is also used to replace metal or glass components on a ship to reduce the chance of blackout due to massive lightning storms or strikes.
Starlites: Rubberglass lanterns containing small fragments of star matter or miniscule amounts of lightning. The common starlite lasts about a year if not damaged.
Galatea: The first fully functional android. Named after the clay made human woman in Pygmalion. Galatea has brought forth not only a new understanding of the complexities of the human anatomy but given science a closer look into the human mind itself.
Golems: Android police and military forces. Rumored to have no emotional programing and a strict black and white perspective, their design was based on Galatea's. How much like her they really are is debatable.
Lightening Effect Syndrome (LES): Blindness, nerve damage, poor motor function, and/or blue ghost psychosis (BGP) or blue ghost syndrome (GBS) caused by a person coming into contact with pure lightening either by the strike itself or a collection accident sometimes simply staring directly into lightening without protective eyewear.
Blue Ghost Syndrome (BGS): Causes indefinite paramnesia that can lead to BGP.
Blue Ghost: Reference to a common phenomena that can affect people of all ages after staring at a lightening storm or even just a lightening strike. In the moments after the viewer may glimpse the shadow of an invisible entity only to blink and have this mirage disappear. Over time the one who experiences this may have the ‘mirage’ appear at times, some years later, long after the initial ocular [eye] exposure. Scientists do not yet know what causes this but have found that the people claiming to have seen the blue ghost make up a little less than half the population. Urban legends arose that if you see this someone will appear in your life to change it forever. Whether this is good or not is unknown and the truth behind this is still being investigated.
Blue Ghost Psychosis (BGP): A form of indefinite psychosis after coming into contact with pure lightning. Especially if contact was made through the skull, spine, or eyes.
Symptoms include - Paranoia, anxiety, restlessness, photophobia (sensitivity to light), blindness (temporary and permanent) sensitivity to sound, jumpiness, hallucinations, delusions, and epileptic convulsions.
Cerulean Knights: Specially trained military forces.
Spiderwire: Wire created from synthetic fibres that were first derived from spider's silk. These wires are soft, strong enough to stop an airship in flight at a speed of 70 knots. Spiderwire can also be infused with silver and sharpened. The upper class also uses spiderwire in clothes as a roving called spidersilk. This material makes up a major faction of the fashion industry as it is a relatively new find. Most comparable material is bamboo roving.
Kha: The life force of everything beneath the Empyreal. Also used alternately with 'soul'.
Nemean Armour: Lightweight and flexible armour most commonly worn by Golems or the Cerulean Knights. Armour is tempered to be the most durable of it's time. Infused with various mixes of bronze, titanium, spiderwire, and in some rare cases diamonds.
Rotary Wind Propulsion (RWP): A common feature on airships that allows them to save on star matter or lightning energy by letting a ship *cruise. Wind from the speed of motion powers the ship by turning the rotors in the *collection unit. (The ship powers itself after about 5kt.) If left unchecked a ship can gain too much power and blackout.
Black Guard: Elite mercenary forces used ‘Void’ persons at any cost. (Often are the cause of Blue Ghost sightings)
Void: Term which means to kill, damage, or steal alternatively.
Vale: The blend of atmosphere and space present around Gaia that allows for ships to travel freely into space with no resistance to a point. Contains breathable but thin air. This is where star harvesting is done.
The Empyreal: Layer of the Vale that is the furthest point from the ground. This layer cannot support life of any kind. It is cold, oxygenless, and uninhabitable. Legend states that forgotten deities live here and that’s why it’s inaccessible by mortals.
